Why Upgrade from the DS-2000 to the DSX?

When upgrading from the DS-2000 to the DSX, much of the DS-2000 station equipment is compatible with the new DSX system. This allows you to preserve your substantial investment is DS-2000 telephones when migrating to the DSX-80/160. There is no need to replace any of your telephones (a huge savings) and you can keep some of the cards inside your system.  With the addition of the DSX components to your current system, if you need to ever replace a telephone, you can do so with the new DSX series phones.  These phones cost a considerable amount less (about $50 per phone) than the DS-2000 phones you have now, have a larger display and offer more features.

Here are answers to some commonly asked questions by our customers about this upgrade:

  • "Why would I want to upgrade if my system is working perfectly fine?"

Part of our job is to keep our customers informed about their equipment.  We dont want to surprise you with this information if you are in need of a replacement part in the future.  Telephones and components can still be repaired, but replacements are very hard to find.  We are just putting this out there as an option if you are interested.

On the other hand, maybe you have been tossing around the idea of a new system, this is the perfect solution to keep some of the money you initially invested, while acquiring new equipment and features at the same time.

  • "What do I need to purchase and why?"

(1)  You must replace the DS2000 cabinet (the housing that holds all the cards) with a DSX cabinet. The FCC prohibits the use of DS-2000 cabinets with DSX.

(2)  DSX CPU (the brains of the system). The DS-2000 CPU cannot run DSX software.

(3)  DSX 16 Port Digital Station Card. The DSX system will not operate without one.  Allows for use of new model phones in future.

(4)  All DS-2000 power supplies must be replaced with DSX supplies. The FCC prohibits the use of DS-2000 power supplies inside the DSX phone system.

(5) DSX Intramail voice mail (if one is needed).  The DS-2000 Intramail voice mail will not operate inside a DSX.

  • "What are some of the new features?"

(1)  Built-in modem. Allows for remote programming.  With the built-in modem, we can securely and economically maintain and customize your system without leaving our office.  This saves you money on service calls for simple changes.

(2)  Built-in auto attendant.  Automated Attendant which can answer incoming calls, play a greeting, and allow callers to dial extensions and departments directly without operator assistance or additional equipment.

(3)  Distribution list.  Send a message to a single mailbox and have IntraMail automatically distribute it to multiple co-workers.  Announce a meeting, change of events

(4)  New phone features.  Large backlit displays and illuminated dial pad for easy viewing in low light areas.  Built-in wall mount, no need to purchase a wall mount-kit anymore.

(5)  Directory Dialing to ease callers through the call routing process. IntraMail provides the capability to reach an employee’s extension by entering their name if they dont know the extension number.

(6)  Built-in music on hold.   IntraMail lets you record an informative message or music that will play to callers while they wait.

(7) Email integration.  Receive an email as a .wav attachment when a new message is left in your mailbox.
